We met Jason and Brit Prather, the makers behind pratherteam, during the end of the first season of the Downtown Canton Flea. This husband-wife collaborative venture makes all kinds of interesting things out of wood. They produce wall art, vinyl record holders, air plant holders, and they do custom work! They even created the rotating displays for Champaign Paper that can be found at Merchant's Mrkt! We had them answer a few questions for us to help give a better idea of what they make, and what makes their brand so awesome!
How did pratherteam get started?
Pratherteam was developed in 2015 shortly after we were married. Brit had a handmade business and started taking on projects which were much easier with Jason's mechanical mind, hardware knowledge and...physical strength. Working increasingly closer together led Brit to include Jason in her ventures and we agreed to re-brand, thus pratherteam began
How do you source your materials?
Our products are generally influenced by our resources. We use pallets, other peoples scrap wood, antique finds, found objects and some new stuff here and there. It is incredibly important to us to buy tools and supplies from businesses around us. It's rewarding to see a project come to completion and realize by making this item you are supporting yourself and a handful of other businesses around you.
What is your best seller?
One of our best selling products is something we call 14 nails. It's the popular American version of peg solitaire. The playing board is wood, stained with a non toxic stain or natural finish, complete with American made cut nails for playing pieces.
Where can people get this awesome stuff?
You can find us around Ohio, selling at markets throughout the year. We also sell on Etsy.
Here's a tough question: Coffee or Tea?
We choose coffee.
Good choice! Thank you so much, Jason and Brit, for taking the time to contribute to our awesome new blog!
Check them out on Etsy at: www.etsy.com/shop/pratherteam, or you can find them at some of the awesome craft shows we'll be at in the next few weeks! We plan to feature a lot more of the great people we have met, along with the events and shops we have come across. If you have any ideas, drop us a line at firstname.lastname@example.org.
