Wow, where does the time go? Happy Monday, everyone! We're gearing up for our holiday season, but we're still devoting time to talk to our fellow vendors, and show off their brands and events that we all attend. Setting aside time out of our busy schedule to do this is very important to us. We want to help get the word out that there are tons of great folks out here, working really hard to bring you all sorts of high quality, unique stuff.
We want to start the week off with our friends at Native Hill Coffee. They are a mobile coffee truck in Northeast Ohio. We asked Max a few questions about their business and how they got started!
How did you get started?
When I lived in Michigan, I had my first really good cup of coffee from Astro Coffee in Detroit. Once I tasted the natural flavors of a high quality coffee I was hooked. There is way more to coffee than just a caffeine source in which you dump cream and sugar into (No judgment if that's how you enjoy it). Many people don't realize that coffee is a seasonal fruit which means it can take on many different natural flavors. We try to highlight those with our offerings and brew method. We currently carry Anthology Coffee (Detroit, MI) as well as Hartzler's Dairy (Wooster, OH) for our milk.
What made you decide to do a mobile cafe?
I noticed coffee trucks were becoming popular on the east and west coasts. And the majority of them transitioned into brick and mortar cafes due to the low overhead cost and high success.
We bought our truck off Craigslist and it was basically an empty shell. My father in law and I did all the work ourselves in terms of turning it into a mobile coffee truck. It's was definitely a DIY project. The majority of our budget was put towards purchasing some of the best equipment in the industry.
How did you come up with the name?
In college I did some organic farming for Americorps and was reading a lot of agrarian literature. One essay by Wendell Berry called A Native Hill really struck me. When attempting to choose a name, that essay came to mind. Picking a name was the most difficult challenge for some reason.
What's your favorite drink?
Cappuccino made with Hartzler's whole milk.
We like the simplicity of your brand. Is that by design?
We do coffee and we want to do it really well. Our goal is for people to seek us out for our coffee. So we keep our product offerings very minimal. We like to keep things clean and basic.
What type of events can you be found at?
We do everything from parking at businesses we enjoy to private events for large corporations. In the summer time, different creative events such as the Downtown Canton Flea and the 720 Market are our most enjoyable. We have even gotten into weddings! We are currently working on a permanent winter pop-up at Deli Ohio in North Canton.
What is your favorite color?
It varies but right now muted grays and blues.
I love it! Thanks so much for taking the time to answer a few questions for us, Max!
We're working with other brands to create profiles for them, and hope to have them posted soon! We are also working on some Etsy tips, small business SEO basics, and we plan to show you what all of our holiday shows look like. We promise the events will be better in person, come visit us!
